I was born into a joint Hindu-Brahmin-Bengali family in a village named Sandhipur. It is located in the junction of three districts of West Bengal – Hooghly, Bankura and West Midnapore, near Kamarpukur, the birthplace of the famous spiritual guru and mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansha Deva.

I completed my school education from my village. Growing up in a lower middle class family, I became aware of the financial and societal limitations that surrounded me. Little did I know that these humble beginnings would shape my determination and tenacity to achieve what seemed impossible.

I had to face many hurdles to pursue my education, but never did I feel that my family would cease to support me and my dreams. I owe everything I am today to my parents- my mother Sudharani Mukherjee, a housewife, who managed the whole family and my father, Harihar Mukherjee, a School teacher. Inspite of the scarcity of resources, they never allowed me and my siblings to stop dreaming. They kindled the flame of hope within me and taught me that education was the key to transcending our circumstances. My parents have always lived with me, and it is for this reason that I came back and settled in Kolkata. I am truly indebted to my parents for inculcating all the values necessary in shaping a respectful human being.

We live in a extended family. My siblings have been an inspiration to me since my formative years. My brothers - Aloke, Tilok, Amit and sisters have always been there, with their unyielding support and sound advice through thick and thin. We always enjoy living in a joint family and share our joys and sorrows together.

Kakali (Dr. Kakali Mukherjee), my wife– the bedrock of my life and my closest advisor. She herself is a doctorate in pharmacy. Her resilience and strength have been the cornerstone of our shared dreams and I am profoundly grateful for the sacrifices she made for our collective success. Your constant encouragement has not been the wind beneath my wings, but the wings themselves – propelling me to pursue my dreams with the confidence that comes from knowing you stand beside me, no matter what.

My daughter Maria is pursuing her doctoral studies in areas of chemical biology. She loves to read, write and has a keen interest in music and art. My son Manish, always lively and cheerful, is pursuing his education in medicine . He is ambitious to become a good doctor and musician in future and also shares an interest in sports.

I am thankful to my wife, Kakali, daughter Maria and son Manish for all the support and love they always give me - you are the reason behind my every successful step.

I believe family provides all the essential elements for an individual to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society. “Family is like music, some low notes, some high notes, but always a beautiful tune”. I feel lucky to have an amazing support system who continue to bestow their unwavering love and affection.
